South Kingstown police said Tuesday that two officers on bicycles stopped a man accused of drunken driving.
Police said an SUV leaving a bar on Saturday night almost struck the two officers on bike patrol. The officers knocked on the SUV's windows, but the driver drove away.
The officers -- on their bicycles -- followed the SUV until it was stopped at a red light on Kingstown Road.
Police said the driver, 52-year-old David Mairs of Narragansett, admitted to drinking at the bar.
Mairs was arrested and charged with DUI. He's due in Washington County District Court on Sept. 20.
He was ordered to appear at the state Traffic Tribunal on Sept. 17 for refusing to submit to a chemical test.
Police said the SUV had New Jersey license plates.
