MARIKINA City Mayor Del de Guzman on Friday expressed his appreciation for the creation of Bike Patrol, a group of policemen from the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Marikina tasked to strengthen police visibility in the community by using bicycles as means of transportation in patrolling the city.

The Bike Patrol, which was launched recently at the Freedom Park, featured 10 policemen on bikes headed by Marikina police chief Senior Supt. Vincent Calanoga.

In a statement, de Guzman acknowledged the importance of bicycles as means of transportation in discharging their duties.

“These bikes give our policemen an extra help in performing their duties. They can patrol even in alleys (eskinita) which a typical police car cannot reach,” de Guzman said.

As of the moment, Bike Patrol will do its rounds in the parks and market area.

PNP-Marikina also opened its doors to cycling enthusiasts who want to participate in the Bike Patrol.

“We encourage residents especially those who are members of cycling clubs in our city to join us in our patrol using bikes,” Calanoga said.
