DENVER, Colo. (KMGH) – A man who lied about his medical condition to get his license has been sentenced after he crashed into a bicycle officer in Denver.

Moments before the crash surveillance video shows officer John Adsit and other Denver Police officers riding their bikes during a  protest on Colfax Avenue last December.

Then, another surveillance camera shows a black Mercedes coming out of nowhere and plowing into four officers, dragging officer John Adsit under the car.

“It was a medical condition,” said Giancarlo Small, the defendant’s attorney. “He had a seizure and that’s how we ended up here today.”

Defense attorneys said in court Christopher Booker hadn’t been diagnosed before the accident and didn’t know the seizure risks.

It came out in court, though, he’d had eleven seizures in ten years and lied about his medical history when applying for his driver’s license, even after the accident.

A judge sentenced Booker to six years of community corrections.  It’s not the probation he wanted, nor is it the prison sentence the district attorney wanted either.

“Every single doctor said that they advised him not to be driving,” said District Attorney Doug Jackson.  Now, he’s concerned, even though Booker said he has no plans to drive.

A doctor’s note discussed in court says under new medication Booker could drive again.

Officer Adsit has had 16 surgeries and doesn’t know if he’ll ever be able to be a police officer again.
