High-speed chase in Ballard on bikes; cops win

BY KOMO NEWS MONDAY, JULY 18TH 2016

Seattle police officers on bikes chased a suspect on a bike through Ballard on Sunday, July 17, 2016.

SEATTLE -- A fraud suspect was no match for Seattle bike officers, who chased him for several miles.

They caught him, with the help of a citizen.

About 6:15 p.m. Sunday, two bike officers at 24th Avenue Northwest and Northwest Market Street saw the 37-year-old suspect ride by. The man was wanted in a felony fraud case, so the officers followed.

The suspect noticed the officers and sped up.

Officers ordered him to stop. But the suspect pedaled faster.

The officers chased the man for two or three miles. He weaved in and out of traffic. A bystander threw a bike in the suspect's path.

That knocked him off the bike, but he got back on and rode off.

Police caught and arrested him at Northwest 43rd Street and Eighth Avenue Northwest.

Police say he was carrying a small amount of methamphetamine and that the bike he had been riding was stolen.

He was booked into the King County Jail.
