MILTON, GA -- The city of Milton is known as one of the safest cities to live in, but it just got safer.

The Milton First Responders Foundation on Monday will present a check to allow the city to purchase four bicycles equipped to help public safety officials save lives and respond quickly to emergencies.

The presentation will be held March 21 at the Milton City Council meeting.

Milton citizens came out to the Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub on Tuesday, Feb. 23 in support of the Milton First Responders Foundation's effort to raise funds for four bicycles for the Milton Police and Fire departments.

Each department will receive two bikes that can be used at community events, which will allow them to easily maneuver around as well as respond to emergencies more quickly.

“We could not have reached our goal if not for the effort of the Crabapple Crossing Elementary Rise Up Team, the William B. Orkin Foundation and the Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub," said Brian Dolan, MFRF board member.

Both Milton Police Chief Steve Krokoff and Milton Fire-Rescue Chief Robert Edgar thanked the foundation for its support of their employees.

“When each second of response time could be lifesaving, these bikes will provide us with one more instrument to better serve at community events," Edgar added.

The Milton First Responders Foundation was established in 2015 to accomplish three things: strengthen the partnership between the citizens of Milton and recognize first responders who demonstrate exceptional skills and bravery; provide financial assistance for first responders injured or killed in the line of duty or enduring a family hardship; and to purchase supplementary or non-budgeted equipment and training materials to keep Milton’s first responders performing at the highest level of productivity and preparedness.

The nonprofit organization's board is made up of civic and business leaders who volunteer their time to the foundation's mission.
