Police caught a bank robber downtown Thursday afternoon.

A robber didn’t get far after police on bikes caught him 15 feet from the bank he robbed Thursday.

Edmonton police were called to a bank robbery around 2:05 p.m. near 107 Street and Jasper Avenue after a man entered a bank, produced a note demanding money, and fled on foot after the cash was handed over.

Downtown beat officers who were on bike patrol in the area arrested the man without incident just outside the bank.

“Police Communications Branch quickly evaluated the call and provided a suspect description,” Edmonton Police Service Supt. Ed McIsaac said in a press release. “With our beat officers already in the area, they were able to apprehend the suspect with the money and note in hand.”

Police have charged Christopher Douglas Finlay, 46, with robbery and disguise with intent.
