Boy finishes onbikes charity ride with Tampa police by his side

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — Eight-year-old Jacob was the last to finish the onbikes charity bike ride this weekend in Tampa, but he didn’t care. He was simply proud to be alongside Tampa Police officers.

The onbikes 6th annual Winter Wonder Ride was a 7-mile bike ride on Saturday, going from Curtis Hixon Park down Bayshore Blvd. and back to the park. The Ride raised enough money to purchase 800 new bikes for underprivileged and foster children around Tampa Bay.

The video, shared by Jacob’s mom and dad after the ride on the Lakeland Mom Facebook page, has gone viral, showing what community is all about. Onbikes has partnered with the Tampa Police Department through this journey of connecting hundreds of kids with new bikes.

Jacob was the last participant out of more than 3,500 riders to complete the 7-mile bike ride, alongside Tampa Police Sergeant Colin McCoy and Officer Luis Vargas.

Jacob’s mom says he’s only been comfortable on a two-wheel bike for a few months. “He didn’t care that he was the very last rider of over 2500 {mostly adults} participating, he was just thrilled that he had police riding alongside him for the last stretch. Thank you to these two Tampa Police Department bike officers and our entire law enforcement community for your great work and for the kindness you show the children in our lives!”
