Three Arapahoe County sheriff's deputies are being recognized for their actions during the Dec. 13 shooting at Arapahoe High School.

Deputy James Englert is the school resource officer and was there when a student shot a fellow student to death then killed himself.

The National Association of School Resource Officers selected Englert for its National Award of Valor — an annual distinction presented to a resource officer who exhibited extreme bravery and courage in the face of danger, according to a release by the sheriff's office.

The Exceptional Service Award is being presented to Deputy Robert Bratsch and Deputy James Mason for their courage and bravery as they responded to help Englert, according to the release.
