The CHERRY HILL – YALE School, a state-approved private special needs school in New Jersey with campuses throughout southern New Jersey and the greater Philadelphia area, donated two electric bicycles to the Cherry Hill Police Department (CHPD). The “e-bikes” are the first for the department’s Community Relations Unit.

The YALE School introduced the e-bikes at an event where Cherry Hill Mayor Susan Shin Angulo and Police Commissioner Robert Kempf gave speeches.

“The Cherry Hill Police Department has always been a great resource for the YALE School, a friendly and reliable partner in the community. In response, we want to do our best to be a good neighbor within the community that we have called home for many years,” said Chris Sarandoulias, Director of the YALE School, of the donation.

Officials from the Community Relations Unit were on hand to test drive the e-bikes and show YALE students the Community Policing Truck. Bought from the Erlton Bike Shop in Cherry Hill, the Giant Roam E+ GTS e-bikes were fully kitted out with police lights, courtesy of the YALE School.

“We are proud of our relationship with the YALE School. Over the years we have done what we can to support the well-being of the student body, staff and visitors and we will continue to do so,” said CHPD chief Robert Kempf. “We look forward to adding these electric bikes to our community policing efforts and continuing to protect and serve all of the people of Cherry Hill.”

YALE students also presented T-shirts made at the YALE Vocational Skills Lab & Co-op to the CHPD and guests. Chick’s Deli’s luncheon in Cherry Hill was sent back to the department for all officers to enjoy.

“I am pleased that the YALE School is recognizing the great work of our Cherry Hill Police Department,” said Mayor Susan Shin Angulo. “I am so proud that the CHPD can use these electric bikes with their community police. You will continue to proudly protect and serve Cherry Hill.”
