MANASSAS, Va. (ABC7) — Police have identified and are looking for a man they say attempted to drive into three officers late Friday night.
According to a news release, three police officers on bicycles attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle around 11:53 p.m. Friday in the area of 8200 Community Dr. in Manassas.
As his vehicle was approached, 27-year-old Christopher Haynes is accused of putting the vehicle into reverse and in the process, almost hit an officer and police department bicycle.
Haynes is then accused of putting the vehicle back into drive and trying to drive at two more officers. Police say the officers were able to get out of the way before Haynes struck two of the police department bicycles and drove away.
Officers say the vehicle was found in the area and another vehicle stop was initiated before Haynes ran away on foot at the end of Fairmont Dr.
Police K-9 and Fairfax County police searched for the suspect, but could not find him.
Minor injuries were reported by the responding officers and arrest warrants were issued for Haynes.
Haynes has been described as being around 5'11" tall, weighing around 170 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. He is wanted for three counts of attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, one count of a felony hit and run, one count of felony destruction of property, and one count of reckless driving.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Prince William County police at (703) 792-6500, or another local police department.
Comments
We’re all glad the bike officers were NOT hurt! Glad the responding officers were not seriously hurt! Sorry to hear about 2 of the duty bikes not faring so well.
Yet another evil example—good to share in all public safety cyclist courses—that suspects’ weapon of choice against bike officers the majority of time is their vehicle.
Be safe & healthy out there everyone!
