The Fuquay-Varina police department is getting a taste of updated technology.

The department announced Tuesday it has acquired two new electronic bicycles and will immediately begin training officers. The e-bikes will be used to patrol downtown areas, parks and commercial areas

Police say the e-bikes increase officer safety in a multitude of ways, including lessening fatigue upon arrival to calls, allowing for a stealth approach and providing faster back-up in a high-traffic areas.

The bikes also assists in reducing officer injuries by providing less stress on the body, while being easier to ride when wearing officer safety gear.

Here we go again!  Very cool!

I hope their training involves the need for greater understanding of the traffic envirnoment, defensive bicycle driving, and e-Bike-specific.
