FRANCONIA PA — The department just got an electric bike, Police Chief Michael Martin told the Franconia Township Board of Supervisors at its Sept. 21 meeting.

“It's a really nice bike. It's heavy duty,” he said, “for patrol.”

A community grant from Univest was used to buy the bike, he said.

“Some of the other bikes we had were antiquated,” he said.

Board member Curtis Kratz said he'd seen the new bike.

“It's an awesome bike,” he said.

It can be pedaled or powered by its motor, he said.

Martin said he thinks the top speed is about 25 miles per hour.

“It's a neat piece of equipment and I'm glad you have it,” Kratz said.
