Erie Police Department Tests Out New Electric Bikes Ahead of CelebrateErie
By Erie News Now, April 6, 2023
Erie police are testing an alternative to getting around downtown.
They had the chance to test out some electric bikes at the Bayfront Convention Center on Thursday.
Officers experienced a training course and demonstration to ride bikes through downtown Erie.
The Erie Police Department (EPD) received over $300,000 in new funding to get 6 new electric bikes.
Six officers have already been selected to operate the bikes, and having the electric component will enable officers to navigate in a more efficient and timely manner, especially when big events come to downtown Erie.
'So, we have a lot of special events downtown, especially in a dense urban space we found e-bikes the most effective mode of transportation to navigate through crowds," said Maxwell Brozell, EPD. "Especially for CelebrateErie if you're familiar with that event there's a lot of pedestrian foot traffic."
