VERNON CT — The police department is set to double its bicycle capacity through a grant from the Gary Sinise Foundation that is providing funding for four new e-bikes to be used to patrol areas where cruisers can't go and provide a more personal connection with residents during summer events.
The $21,523 grant will cover the entire cost of four state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly electronic mountain bikes to compliment four traditional bicycles that officers currently use.
There is no cost to taxpayers for the new e-bikes, according to town officials.
