The Welleby Management Association, which has 4,500 residences in the city of Sunrise, donated two tricked out bikes for the Sunrise Police Department's bicycle patrol officers.
The rides, and 29 new helmets that are all worth about $5,000, were given to the agency during a ceremony at a city commission meeting this week.
"We have gotten a lot of good feedback from homeowners who have seen the bike patrol, and the police do come to our meetings every month," said Jessica Conover, property manager for the association. "The gift was a decision by the board, to help promote the bicycle unit and help it grow."
The bikes are specially-designed Trek police models, and have upgraded components that include heavy-duty shocks, light frames and sensitive brakes, Sunrise Police Sgt. Jason Wilkey said.
