The Pullman Police Department has added two electrically assisted bicycles to its fleet of vehicles.
Pullman PD Cmdr. Chris Tennant said the E-bikes were added to assist officers that may have to travel up hills during their police work.
“Not to sound flippant, but there is a lot of hills in town,” he said.
Tennant said traditional motorless bicycles were becoming too difficult for officers to use, as they could show up to the scene of a disturbance out of breath.
The Trek E-bikes were purchased locally from B&L Bicycles and are equipped with a large battery and motor that allow them to travel up to 28 miles per hour, according to the department’s press release.
Tennant estimated that the E-bikes cost around $4,000 each.
