Cycling Sports Group donated 10 new law enforcement bikes manufactured by Cannondale to the Ogden Police Department on Wednesday, July 20.
OGDEN UT — The Ogden Police Department was given 10 new law enforcement bicycles Wednesday by a Connecticut bicycle supplier.
According to the Deseret News, each bike — donated by Cycling Sports Group and manufactured by Cannondale — costs about $1,400.
The bikes are special mountain bikes with a durable frame designed for police officers, Visit Ogden spokeswoman Sydnie Furton told the Deseret News.
Cycling Sports Group made the donation as a thank you to Ogden police for helping it with bike security and and road closures during the company’s annual sales summits, Furton said.
“We are thrilled to have received such a generous donation from (Cycling Sports Group)” Ogden Police Lt. Chad Ledford said in a statement, according to the Deseret News. “This year we were planning to request funding for new bikes. This gift helps us save those funds for other needs and ultimately helps us grow as a department.”
Officials with Ogden City said in a Facebook post that the support from Cannondale is appreciated.
Bicycle patrol is part of Ogden’s Community Policing Program, which has “a focus on visibility, problem solving, and developing an informational working relationship between the police and the citizens they serve,” according to Ogden’s website.
