New wheels for patrols in Sippy Downs

By Sergeant Steve McDonald, Sunshine Coast MyPoliceBlog, Oct 12, 2016

Today Sippy Downs police commenced regular bike patrols of the area. This has be made possible by an exciting new partnership with local business Ray White Sippy Downs, who graciously donated two brand new specialised mountain bikes.

Bike patrols allow our police to access areas, such as the Sunshine Coast University Campus, schools, bike paths, parks, shopping centres and other areas normally difficult to access by police.

Sippy Downs police have conducted bike patrols in the past by borrowing bikes from neighbouring stations, however now having a dedicated fleet of bikes provides the flexibility to perform bike patrols whenever required.

Police officers undertake a three day enhanced skills course to perform bike patrols. Currently six officers from Sippy Downs have qualified and further will be trained in the future.

Having the ability to perform bike patrols will assist with our aim and focus to continue to work closely with the community to make Sippy Downs a safer place to live and conduct business.
