LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) — To combat a recent spike of stolen items at construction sites in Leander, the police department is turning to bicycle patrols. Thieves are stealing tools, plywood, compressors and even a trailer full of tools.
The Leander police currently has two bike officer patrolling in the evenings.
To get the word out about the patrols, the Leander PD posted a photo on social media stating they’re using bikes with a ‘cloaking device.’ Lt. Derral Partin says it was a joke but the thefts are a serious problem. He says the bike officers can maneuver around the construction site better than patrol vehicles.
