Johnson City Bike Patrol looking out at Blue Plum Festival

By Kristi O'Connor, Multimedia Journalist/News Producer, Jun 05 2015

If you're headed to the Blue Plum Festival this weekend, you'll likely see a lot of Johnson City

The festival is a little more spread out this year, so there will be more than 25 officers covering the area. About ten of them will be on bikes.

Police on foot patrol will take care of the areas close to the festival, and bike patrol will cover the parking lots and roads outside of the fest.

Sergeant Terry Harden says with road closures and lots of foot traffic the bikes are the best way for them to respond quickly and quietly.

"They're a lot more mobile especially with a crowded park and stuff so we can go to a call on the other side of the downtown area and then be on the next side a lot quicker than an officer can on foot," Harden said.

If you can't find an officer and you need one, you can find the police command center is located just past the railroad tracks by the main street stage.
