Harrison rolls out electric bikes for police

HARRISON - The Harrison Police Department is rolling out the first two electric bikes used by law enforcement in the county.

The motor-assisted eBikes enable officers to conduct longer and more effective bicycle patrols as compared to a traditional bike. They can reach speeds of up to 28 mph about nine miles faster than an average bike. The bikes also have a battery range of around 50 miles.

Sleek eBikes in Tarrytown sold the bikes to the officers, to help enhance street patrols in the community. “It's for the officer more than anyone else. It's for his or her ability to be refreshed and travel long distances in the community, respond to calls where a police car could be caught in traffic, and the officer can now respond on a bicycle many times quicker than a patrol car can,” says Harrison Police Chief Joseph Yasinski.

Harrison joins a growing number of communities across the nation turning to eBikes.
