Ship Bottom NJ:  Christmas arrived early for Ship Bottom police, thanks to a donation of two fully equipped electric bikes from the borough’s Walters Bicycles and Pedego LBI.

The police department is the recipient of two Pedego Ridge Rider special edition electric bikes. The bicycles are described as “a green alternative transportation” and allow the operator to pedal or not for greater mobility through traffic. The ability to do that in a high-traffic area will help police with faster response times, enhance public service and foster community, according to bike shop owner Tom Walters.

“This is a very generous donation, which vastly exceeded all expectations,” Police Chief Jonathan Potter said. “These bicycles are the forefront of technology and will greatly assist in serving the community.”

He added, “Walters Bicycles has been working with the Ship Bottom Police Department for decades, making sure our bicycles are in great working order and supplying the proper equipment. Owner Tom Walters always makes sure to make time for the police department and would quickly have our bicycles fixed and parts ordered, helping us serve the community.”

The electric bicycles were used during the Ship Bottom Christmas parade, Potter added.

“The Ship Bottom Police Department would like to thank Tom Walters, Patrice Albanese and our mayor and council for the donation,” he said.

Walters and Albanese also credit Don DiCostanzo, co-founder and chief executive officer of Pedego Electric Bikes, for helping them to make this project possible.  —G.G.S.
