Dunmore Police New Patrol Bikes

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) Several police will be patrolling their community on two-wheels instead of four, now that they have some brand new bikes.

Local businesses, including Toyota of Scranton, donated three police patrol bikes to the Dunmore Police Department.

Each bike is equipped with emergency led lighting, a siren, headlights, a utility bag and helmet.

One of the department's captain, Captain Richard Barth, shared the benefits these bikes will have to the 15-thousand residents of Dunmore.

"More visibility. Better one on one rapport with the community. Some people are more opted to walk up to an officer on a bike, then they would to try and flag an officer down in a car. I think that will be very beneficial."

The police department plans to put the new bikes to use this weekend to keep trick or treaters safe.
