Kamloops RCMP will be parking their cars to catch bad guys this summer.
Police will be hitting the streets, parks and water this summer to conduct foot, bike and boat patrols.
“Uniformed officers will be deployed on foot patrols to the downtown area, the North Shore and various parks during peak periods of calls for service for the summer,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie “Typically, officers doing foot patrols address concerns such as disturbances, panhandling, open liquor, drug use and mischief.”
There are also intermittent bike patrols planned.
“Officers on bikes are very effective at going to places not easily accessible by car. The bike patrol is a valuable tool, enabling officers to respond rapidly, effectively and often un-expectantly on suspicious persons and activities,” said Shelkie.
The RCMP boat will also be conducting patrols on their boat this summer and will be checking water vessels for proof of competency, life jackets, safety gear and impaired operators.
“All officers, whether on foot, bike or boat, will be proactive in their approach to any problems they encounter. These various patrols are another way that Kamloops RCMP is working to keep our streets and communities safe,” said Shelkie.
