CAPALABA shoppers can expect to see more police officers embracing pedal power around the suburb's business centre.
Police stations across the bayside are embracing bike squads to cover areas considered impractical for cars, with 17 officers trained in bicycle patrols last Tuesday and Wednesday.
Several of the officers will be deployed to Capalaba's shopping and commercial precinct, where they will patrol to ensure a more practical law enforcement presence.
Capalaba Police Station officer in charge, Senior Sergeant Andrew Gillies said bicycles proved more practical than cars in many areas.
"They'll be assisting in areas where it's difficult to use police cars," he said.
"We will be targeted at problem areas and any other areas that are suited to this kind of community policing."
Bike patrols have been rolled out gradually across Queensland, with full-time squads established in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.
