Clifton Forge Police adding bike patrols

By Bruce Young | May 21, 2019, WDBJ-7

CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (WDBJ7) In Clifton Forge, the police are getting ready to patrol on a new set of wheels. It's not a new car in the parking lot, but bicycles.

Two officers just finished the forty-hour training program to become bicycle patrol officers, which involves everything from safety to how to arrest someone from a bike, and even how to shoot from one.

“I think it’s a great thing that the officers can be on bikes," Chief Chad Wickline said. "It puts them in different areas that they cannot be in in vehicles. It puts them face-to-face to the citizens that they are serving instead of just throwing up a hand through a windshield.”

You can expect to see them out on the road in a couple weeks.
