CBP buys a dozen mountain bikes for Border Patrol units in Texas

CBP has awarded a contract worth just over $27,000 to Bicycle Patrol Outfitters, of Fullerton, CA, to supply a dozen Specialized Camber Comp 29 mountain bikes for use by the bike patrol units in the U.S. Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector in Texas.
The contract calls for nine large-size and three medium-size bikes, all colored white.
According to the statement of work that accompanied CBP’s original solicitation, all of the mountain bikes will have to adhere to the following specifications: “Frames will be Full-Suspension, hydro-formed tubing; 29 inch Geometry; Rear shock: AUTOSAG, air spring with rebound adjustment; Fork: Solo air spring, tapered alloy, rebound adjustment standard; Handlebars: 720mm wide, 10mm rise, Front Brakes: hydraulic disc, semi-metallic pad; Rear Brake: hydraulic disc, semi-metallic pad; Brake levers: tool-less reach adjustment; Front Derailleur: 10-speed, direct mount bottom pull; Rear Derailleur: 10-speed, mid cage; Rims: alloy disc, 26mm wide, 32H; Front Tire: maximum 29 x 2.3”; Rear Tire: maximum 29 x 2.1”
Bicycle Patrol Outfitters, LLC (BPO) has been involved in the public safety retail bicycle patrol business since 1997, SAYS ITS Web site.
“We sell primarily to law enforcement, security, EMT, fire, military police, parking enforcement, community service officer bicycle patrol agencies and companies,” the Web site notes. “BPO's owners are not only avid cyclist, but they are active police officers with over 50 years of law enforcement experience.”
The small business set-aside award, which was announced on September 5, was for $27,097.
