ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Allentown Police Department is sporting a set of new wheels, thanks to a local business.

ESSA Bank and Trust presented officers with a new patrol bicycle today to replace one in the department's aging fleet.

The new bike, which is worth about $2,000, is fully equipped and will be used to help police maintain safety and security in downtown Allentown.

"It allows us to get to places that cars don't. And we can get to places quicker than if we're on foot. So the bikes are very effective for this environment downtown, where you have a lot of quarteralleys, streets and things like that, and parking decks," said Chief Tony Alsleben.

The 10-speed trek bike was built exclusively for law enforcement and has features that help make it easier for officers to ride on different ground surfaces.
