WELCOME TO DELAWARE, OHIO, AND OHIO WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY
Delaware, Ohio, is a study in contrasts. The city appreciates its history, preserving historic buildings in a downtown still very much resembling its 19th century origins. Delaware also boasts a "funky" side, evidenced by an eclectic mix of retail shopping, dining options, and cultural offerings that range from music and art to harness racing and farmers' markets.
Downtown is one of the City's most defining elements because it is an intact historic business district, parts of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The city is a Certified Local Government (US Department of the Interior), a Main Street Community (National Trust and Downtown Ohio Inc.), and in 2004 was designated one of the first Preserve America Communities by the White House. Delaware has been honored with a "Best Hometown" designation from Ohio Magazine.
Ohio Wesleyan University, chartered in 1842, occupies 200 acres adjacent to downtown Delaware. A private, liberal arts college, OWU (oh-WOO), boasts a rigorous curriculum, strong mentoring relationships, and a host of experiential learning opportunities for students.
The campus has a mix of historic and modern buildings, and dozens of stairs, curbs, and other built obstacles ideal for bike training.
